A locking mechanism (8) for the opening or closing of an inlet opening (4) for air to cool a magnetron arranged within a microwave oven (Fig. 3b) includes spring elements (7;12) of an alloy having a shape memory, which have a long operating life and act as an energy-saving and inexpensive substitute for an otherwise conventional extra drive of the locking mechanism (8). <IMAGE>
