In order significantly to reduce the power consumption by means of improved heat transmission from the cooking plate to the cooking vessel, the flexible electrical cooking area is divided into individual heating elements which match themselves by means of spring pressure to the base of the vessel and to its unevennesses. A magnet which is arranged in the centre of the flexible electrical cooking area pulls the cooking vessel, on whose bottom an iron platelet is inserted in an embedded manner for this purpose, onto the heating elements. In consequence, the cooking vessel is also prevented from sliding. Small cooking plates are superfluous in that, if they are required, only the heating elements which are arranged in the centre of the flexible electrical area are heated. Switching on of half the flexible electrical cooking area largely prevents the contents of the cooking vessel being overcooked. If a plug connection is provided, the individual heating elements can be removed and, if necessary, replaced in a simple manner. Exceptionally, if extreme contamination is expected, a protective cap of thin metal can be used, which nevertheless still allows the heating elements to be matched to the cooking vessel.
