PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of performance of a recording medium by counting pulse number changing in response to the running of a recording medium so as to control the relation of position of a magnetic head with respect to the recording medium thereby detecting a required message without contacting a recording/reproducing head onto the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A recording tape T is rewound until it is restored to the start position and o is stored in a pulse counter built-in a microcomputer 1. As soon as the fast feedingof the magnetic tape T is started, the pulse sent from a light sensor 2G is started, whether or not the recording position is identical to the recording start location of a reply message stored in a ROM 1b in advance is discriminated and when they are identical, a motor 2d is stopped to record the 1st reply message. The reply message is recorded by running the recording tape T till the recording start position of each message stored in the ROM 1b. When the reply message is coincident with its count number, a solenoid 2e is driven to contact the magnetic head 2a onto the recording tape T in the reproduction.
