PURPOSE:To provide the titled fiber composed of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and a univalent metal carboxylic acid salt, having specific critical oxygen index and degree of swelling with water, excellent uniformity, and flame-retardancy and extremely high water-absorption in spite of the non-crosslinked structure. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber having extremely high water-absorption, a critical oxygen index of >=25 and a swelling degree of 10-300cc/g is composed of a copolymer of (A) 65-90wt% acrylonitrile and (B) a carboxylic acid salt of a univalent metal (Li, K or Na) such as sodium acrylate. The component B is preferably a (meth)acrylic acid salt. |
