Material from an inlet (15) enters a rotary drum to be mixed under raised or lowered pressure by tools (17) projecting from a shaft parallel with but offset from the drum axis (35). Separate drive motors (6,22) for mixer tools and drum are at the side, operating through belts above the drum, or below the drum floor and coupled through cogs (5,4). The entire mixer drum is mounted in a stationary pressure-tight container (3). Aligned discharge apertures in the mixer drum and pressure container floors are freed by a pivoting seal plate. Fluent mixt. can be sucked through a pipe sealingly traversing the pressure container lid. Alternative mixer drums have hollow walls for tempering medium, and/or a condensor, and may be inclined from vertical.
