Video motion detector

A video motion detector for colour video signals operates on the chrominance component signals by comparing the signals on the current frame with those on the previous frame (20, 22). This method can incorrectly indicate chrominance motion when in fact there is no chrominance in the current frame e.g. when uncoloured luminance detail is uncovered by a moving coloured object. To overcome this problem, a rectifying and clipping circuit (32) determines whether there is chrominance in the current frame, and, in the absence of chrominance in the current frame, forces the motion output signal to indicate the absence of motion. The motion detector is particularly useful with the PALplus broadcast television proposal. <IMAGE>
