The method produces corrugations in only the lower part (5) of the sheet which is to be folded over tiles. The part is pressed between complementary heated jaws (6,7) with channelled edges (9) and electric heating elements (10) controlled by temperature probes (11). The temperature is held below the melting point but high enough to soften the material, which is thinned and shaped into parallel folds without increase in overall width and without penetration.
