CONTROL METHOD FOR PRINTER, COMMUNICATION METHOD WITH PRINT SYSTEM AND REPLACEABLE MODULE BEING EMPLOYED IN PRINT SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a message automatically upon insertion of a module by informing the availability of software for a printer driver if a printer driver identifier in a memory is indicating a new driver procedure at the time of inserting the module. SOLUTION: At the time of installing an ink cartridge 14, a memory chip 20 in the ink cartridge 14 is connected through a connector 18 with a microprocessor 40 in an ink jet printer 1. A part of parameters recorded in the memory chip 20 are related to the use of ink in the cartridge 14 and the remainder are used for controlling the ink jet printer 1. Other kind of data for displaying a message automatically to a user at the time of initial loading of the ink cartridge 14 is also stored in the memory chip 20. For example, the availability of software for a new printer driver and the necessity of replacing the ink cartridge 14 at the time of low ink level are displayed.
