PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can hold a workpiece cloth without using a separate member.SOLUTION: A sewing machine 1 includes a carriage 17 which can be mounted with an embroidery frame. The carriage 17 can be moved between a needle bar 6 and a column part 3 in a Y-axis direction. The sewing machine 1 controls a Y-axis motor to perform position control of the carriage 17 in the Y-axis direction. The sewing machine 1 can be switched between two operation modes of an embroidery sewing mode and a free motion mode on an operation panel 9. When switching to the free motion mode is accepted on a setting screen of the operation panel 9, the sewing machine 1 moves the carriage 17 to a specified position separated forward from the column part 3 by a prescribed distance. A rolled end part 301 of a workpiece cloth 300 can be inserted into and held in a space 70 formed between the column part 3 and the carriage 17. The position of the rolled end part 301 is fixed, so that workability during free motion sewing is improved.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
