[Also in Division C4] 3 - N - Acetylamino - 6 - methyl - N - (#- acetoxyethyl) - aniline is prepared by treating 1 - methyl - 2 - N - (# - hydroxyethyl) - amino- 4 - acetaminobenzene in glacial acetic acid containing hydrogen chloride gas followed by addition of acetic anhydride, N - # - hydroxyethyl - N<SP>1</SP> - 3 - acetylaminoaniline is obtained by the addition of 1 mol. of 2 - chloroethanol to N - 3 - acetylaminoaniline, which is obtained by reduction of the nitro group of meta - acetylamino - nitro - aniline which is obtained by treating meta - nitroaniline with acetyl chloride. |
