1530280 Pipe joints DAIMLER BENZ AG 17 Nov 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 47249/75 Heading F2G A pipe flange 3, e.g. of a steel exhaust pipe 2, is fixed by a symmetric arrangement of bolts 7 to a surface 4, e.g. of a soft aluminium alloy cylinder head 1, with an intermediate substantially flat and substantially symmetrical seal 10 that has tabs 12, 13 co-operating with a stop surface 5 on the flange 3 or the said surface 4 to ensure correct positioning. The seal 10 comprises a pressing from sheet metal with a raised sealing bead 14 on one face surrounding a fluid passage and raised support beads 15 on the same face partly-surrounding bolt holes 20; the support beads 15 are preferably 1/5 to 1/3 less in height than the sealing bead 14 to limit its compression and are arranged to contact the steel pipe flange 3 rather than the aluminium surface 4 so that there is no scoring of the latter.
