The railway wagon has a single axle at each end, and has a head piece in the from of a horizontal beam, whose ends are supported by the axle suspension, and which has buffer plates (4) with longitudinal reinforcing webs (5) and shortened buffers (16). The central part (6) of the head piece is indented relative to the plane (7) of the buffer plates, and is strengthened by corner plates or gusset plates (9) in the region which connects it to a central longitudinal beam (8). The head piece is matched to the sloping end wall section of the body of the wagon, and has end brackets (12,13) for the attachment of steps (14) and cable hooks. The wagon body has a vertical end wall above the sloping section.
