PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern recognition device capable of correctly determining an algorism to be given priority, in a pattern recognition method using plural algorisms. SOLUTION: This pattern recognition device recognizes a pattern read by using the plural algorisms. The device comprises: a highly reliable section holding part 105 used for outputting one algorism out of the plural algorisms and storing a highly reliable section table with highly reliable sections predetermined by the respective algorisms based on a recognition score expressing sureness of a recognition candidate obtained from the algorism; a recognition control part 102 for recognizing the pattern read by a pattern input part 101 by the use of the plural algorisms registered in an algorism module group memorizing part 103 and for calculating the recognition score by one algorism; and a recognition result determination part 106 for determining the final recognition candidate and the degree of sureness of the candidate based on the difference between the recognition score calculated by the control part 102 and the highly reliable sections of the respective algorisms.
