Method and system for the automatic planning of experiments

A method for the automatic design of experiments is disclosed which includes the steps of (a) inputting d-dimensional parameter space, (b) inputting the number M of experiments to be designed, (c) inputting a similarity measure of two experiments, (d) inputting a weighting measure for an individual experiment, (e) determining a quality measure for a selected set of M experiments based on the summed similarity measures and the summed weighting measures of all of the experiments, (f) finding a set of number M of experiments in which the quality measure assumes an extreme value, which is the experiments which are as dissimilar as possible, and which show a uniform distribution in the parameter space. Finally, step (g) output M experiments.
