A carrier (I) is prepd. by heating a carboxyvinyl polymer esp. at 204-315 (260) degrees C. (I) are used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soaps, car-wash tablets, deodorants, denture cleaners, detergents, floor cleaners, protein shampoos, car and furniture polishes, and carpet cleaners. They also improve the cell strength of synthetics, e.g. polyurethane foams. They can be used in prodn. of moulded goods or cardboard from sawdust, sand, rice hulls, steel chips or peanut hulls. (I) is also useful in treating metal wastes. The use of non-aq. solvents may be avoided. (I) forms a gel in water or aq. solns., and is stable, e.g. in presence of aspirin. It may also be used as a solid. In an example aq. gels contg. (I) are mixed with preservatives, and opt. dyes, emulsifiers, neutralising agents, vegetable or mineral oils, or perfumes. A soap tablet contains (I), Na tripolyphosphate, soap flakes, starch, talc, an optical brightener, alginic acid and perfume. |
