A tufted nonwoven high loft fabric is made by using paper making techniques with an apertured fibre collecting plate. The plate presents entanglement between adjacent tufts prior to removal of the fabric from the plate. The tufted non-woven fabric has inwardly turned spirally consolidated and entangled individual tuft head portions together with aligned and untwisted root portions. The letter interconnect the tuft head portions to the undisturbed main body of the web material. The high loft fabrics exhibit textile like characteristics including softness, drape, hand and absorbency associated with materials such as turkish or terry towelling. |
