PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiro diacid anhydride containing two or more asymmetric carbon atoms in the molecular and having optical activity and a method for advantageously producing the spiro diacid anhydride having optical activity and to provide a polyimide having optical activity and a method for producing the polyimide. SOLUTION: This spiro diacid anhydride having optical activity is represented by a specific chemical formula and the method for producing the compound is characterized by carrying out Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and a specific unsaturated carboxylate ester. The polyimide having optical activity is represented by a specific chemical formula and the method for producing the polyimide is characterized by being obtained from the spiro diacid anhydride.
