<p>The coating medium is applied with a blade-coating unit (11, 13, 41, 43). In a later operation, a further medium is coated using a curtain coating unit (16, 17). The fibrous web is dried, having left the blade coater. It passes through a smoothing stage (15, 19) before reaching the curtain coater, after which it passes through a dryer or further curtain coater. Following the last dryer (18, 31, 35) it passes through a final smoothing stage (19). A coating medium is applied using a film coater, before the curtain coater. The web first passes through a film coater, then a blade coater. Further configurations based on the foregoing principles are described. The equipment forms a unit with a papermaking machine.
