Using a simple device, the evaporator surface is kept in a state of dampness by way of condensed water, offering an air-conditioning system that is able to suppress the occurrence of bad smells. In addition, in being able to influence the state of operation of the compressor to avoid the point where bad smells are produced, power used by the compressor can be controlled. <??>The means for solving the problem incorporates a temperature detection device which detects the temperature of the evaporator's refrigeration cycle and a device which determines whether or not the temperature of the evaporator has stabilized when the operation of the refrigeration cycle is stopped, and when it has been determined that the evaporator temperature has been stabilized can recognize any temperature below that of the stabilized temperature as the control temperature and using the control temperature as a basis, controls a compressor. If the compressor is a fixed capacity type, the control temperature is used as the threshold level which switches the compressor on and off, and if the compressor is a variable capacity type, the control temperature is used as a basis, in order to allow the temperature of the evaporator to fluctuate, causing the discharge volume of the above-mentioned compressor to vary. <IMAGE>
