PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing propylene oxide, in which propylene is converted into the propylene oxide with an oxygen carrier comprising isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide obtained from isopropylbenzene and the isopropylbenzene can repeatedly be used. SOLUTION: This method for producing the propylene oxide comprises (1) an oxidation process for oxidizing isopropylbenzene to obtain isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide, (2) a process for reacting the isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide with propylene to obtain propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol, and (3) a process for hydrogenolyzing the cumyl alcohol obtained in the epoxidation process to obtain isopropylbenzene and then recycling the isopropylbenzene to the oxidation process, which is characterized in that the concentration of sodium in the solution containing the isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide fed into the epoxidation process is <=1,000 wt.ppm. |
