A fuel cell apparatus has a condenser-type exhaust gas heat exchanger (6) producing condensed water for recycling to a reformer (4). A fuel cell apparatus has an upstream reformer (4) for producing hydrogen gas from a fuel gas and water, a fuel cell exhaust line (15) passing through a heat exchanger (6), a fuel cell air supply line (13) and a fuel cell electrical output line (10). The heat exchanger (6) is of condensation type with a condensate line leading to a water container (11), from which a water line (14) leads to the reformer (4).
