PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject outer wall material sustaining its photocatalytic function over a long period by fixing a metal oxide having photocatalytic function and a binder onto the surface layer, facing on the outside air, of a ceramic outer wall base material with the rate of dimensional change due to water absorption at a specified value or lower. SOLUTION: This outer wall material is obtained by fixing a metal oxide having photocatalytic function and a binder onto the surface layer of a ceramic outer wall base material; wherein the outer wall base material is <=0.08 wt.% in the rate of dimensional change due to water absorption, pref. containing tobermorite crystal and being reinforced with linear or fibrous reinforcing material, polymeric fiber or the like; the photofunctional material having photocatalytic function is one or more compounds selected from TiO2, ZnO, SnO2, SrTiO2, H2WO3, Bi2O3 and Fe2O3, being pref. anatase or brookite type TiO2 which is prepared by hydrolysis of 0.05-10 mol/L of an aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride at >=50 deg.C for 10 min to 12 h; the binder is e.g. an oxide such as silica, iron oxide or alumina, compound oxide thereof, zirconia, boron, its amount to be used is pref. 0.01-60 wt.% based on the metal oxide particles, esp. titanium dioxide as the photocatalytic material. |
