An apparatus and method for recognizing door open of facsimile is disclosed. The apparatus for recognizing door open of facsimile comprises: document presence sensing means(103) for sensing whether the document is present or not; place recongnition sensing means(104) of sensing whether the moved document is placed on a reading location or not; and central processing means(114) for determining whether a door of the facsimile is open or not, in accordance with two signals from the document presence sensing means and the place recongnition sensing means. Thereby, the door open of the facsimile can be recognized without additional sensor.
