<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element which can be manufactured by a simple manufacturing method having high conversion efficiency, especially, an element having high performance equivalent to that using liquid electrolyte even in the case of using a solid electrolyte as an electrolyte layer. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element is composed of two sheets of conductive substrates at least one of which is transparent, a semiconductor layer modified by a sensitizer, formed on a conductive surface of either one of the conductive substrates, and an electrolyte layer interposed between the two sheets of conductive substrates, containing a substance having at least a reversible electrochemical redox property.
