An image processing apparatus of a plasma display panel is provided to enhance the quality of an image by varying gray level according to images. An image processing apparatus includes a histogram calculation unit(200) and a gray level setting unit(300). The histogram calculation unit calculates image histogram of a previous frame. The gray level setting unit sets a gray level of a current frame by the image histogram. The image processing apparatus further includes a gray level separation unit(400), an error diffusion unit(500), a dithering unit(600), and an inverse gamma compensation unit(700). The gray level separation unit divides an interval between respective gray levels into plural intervals and sets a first number of gray levels. The error diffusion unit performs the error diffusion on the first number of the gray levels. The dithering unit performs the dithering on the first number of the gray levels and sets a second number of gray levels. The inverse gamma compensation unit performs an inverse gamma compensation on the second number of gray levels.
