A mixture of materials like un-sintered PTFE powder and a lubricant, is pressed into a cylindrical blank (3) and then to a small-sized monofilament strand (7) with a predetermined cross-sectional shape. The monofilament strand is rolled into a roll strip (1) through a calender roll arrangement (5) having rigid rollers (5a,5b) such that the roll strip partially receives the shape of circumferential recesses formed in peripheral surface of roller (5b) and the cross-sectional shape of the pressed monofilament strand is approximately adapted to the shape of the recess. An independent claim is included for a device for producing winding tape.
