PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a LiMnNi composite oxide particle capable of achieving higher capacity and higher cycle characteristics, as a positive electrode active material, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which the composite oxide particle is used as a positive electrode active material.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes Li, Mn, Ni and at least one element M selected from among Mg, Al, Si, Ti, Cr, Fe, Co, Cu and Zn, and is a spinel type oxide having a molar ratio of Li:Mn:Ni:M=t:2-x-y:x:y. In a spectrum obtained at an interior portion having a distance from the surface of the oxide of 50 nm or more by an electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) measuring apparatus attached to a transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the value of energy loss of a spectrum peak attributed to the Mn-L3 edge and the value of energy loss of a spectrum peak attributed to the Mn-L2 edge are detected at 643 eV or more, and 654 eV or more, respectively.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
