<p>1328968 Mobile passenger gangways BOOTHE AIRSIDE SERVICES Inc 16 Oct 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 49349/70 Heading B7J A mobile passenger transfer vehicle 10 comprises a passenger-carrying pod 17 mounted on guide posts 14, 15 for vertical movement relative thereto, each post having a respective screwthreaded shaft 25, 26 mounted thereon by means of a thrust bearing assembly 29, and an internally screw-threaded nut assembly 27 being mounted on each shaft and supporting a transverse bolster 19 of the pod 17 such that rotation of the respective shafts 25, 26 causes the nut assemblies to move up and down to raise and lower the pod. In a lowered position of pod 17, the support surface of each nut assembly 27 can be disengaged from the pod bolster 19, thus permitting the pod to rest on springs 88. Each thrust bearing assembly 29, Fig. 3, comprises bearings 59, 65 on opposite sides of an opening 51 in a bracket 31 fixed to the respective guide post 14, 15. Bearing 59 in retained by a plate 61 fixed to bracket 31 while bearing 65 rests on a resilient plate 63 and has a clearance with the respective shaft 25, 26. The shaft 25 or 26 is supported in the thrust bearing by a nut 70 supported on a washer 67, in turn supported by bearing 65. It can be seen that the clearance between the shaft and bearing 65 permits relative angular misalignment of the shaft and respective post over an angle A. Each nut assembly 27, Fig. 4, is prevented from rotating relative to the respective shaft 25 or 26 by side links 75 attached pivotally to a rigid member 74 of the assembly. The other ends of links 75 are pivoted to a forked link 77, in turn pivotally connected to a block 79 rigidly fixed to the respective bolster 19 which rests on the assembly. The bolster 19 lies on a polished sheet 81 forming a surface of a resilient bush 80. Thus rotation of shafts 25, 26 by motor M, via gearing 39, 37, 33 and 43, 41, 35 raises and lowers the nut assemblies 27 and hence the pod 17.</p> |
