<p>1298756 Rolling mills VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE AG 6 March 1970 [23 April 1969] 10964/70 Heading B3M A roll stand for rolling continuously cast bars includes a pair of rolls 1 and 2 supported in housings 5 and 6, Fig. 2, the stand being releasably secured to a base-plate 24 and being removable as a unit from the base-plate to enable a further stand to replace it. The base plate is secured to the edges of a pit 23 in which a drive unit 21, 22 for the stand is disposed. The stand is releasably secured to the base-plate by a lever-operated cam 41, and is located in position by a peg 36. Each roll has a shaft 11 or 12 which is coupled by bevel gears 16, 18 or 17, 19 to a vertical drive shaft 15. When the stand is lifted from the baseplate, the shaft slides out of a driving gear 42. The splined connection between the shaft and the bevel gears 18 and 19 enables the rolls to be adjusted vertically by hydraulic cylinders 9 and 10 to vary the roll gap. The casings 13 and 14 which accommodate the bevel gears are supported laterally by vertical housing posts (Fig. 3, not shown) fixed to the base-plate 24, and by an upper U-shaped frame 48, Fig. 2.</p> |
