The molecular weight of crystalline propylene polymer can be lowered, giving an environmentally stable plastic composition having narrow molecular weight distribution by visbreaking a propylene polymer using an activated portion (e.g. 0,5 to 50%) of the propylene polymer as a prodegradant. The prodegradant is formed by activating a portion of the propylene polymer by exposure to ionizing radiation. Visbreaking takes place at 200 to 300 DEG C by shear mixing in an extruder.
