<p>The use of porcine tissue, and especially porcine liver acetone powder, as a source of P and A-type inositolphosphoglycans (IPGs) is disclosed. In particular, the A-type substances as obtainable from porcine tissue have the biological activities of inhibiting cAMP dependent protein kinase and inhibiting glucose stimulated lipogenesis, making them suitable for use as A-type IPG antagonists. These antagonists are useful for the treatment of conditions such as diabetes as they do not substantially affect insulin stimulated lipogenesis and act to lower blood glucose levels.</p> |
