PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing an optical waveguide device which has required fineness and accuracy and improved pattern quality and is suitable for second harmonic generation by pseudo-phase matching. CONSTITUTION: The surface 10 of a uniform substrate 1 consisting of a ferroelectric material is coated thereon with band-shaped materials 13 consisting of doping materials. Dopants are infiltrated and diffused from these layers 13 into the substrate 1 and, at this time, doped regions 14 or the non-doped substrate 1 has a relatively high Curie temp. The substrate 1 is heated to the higher Curie temp. or a temp. above this temp. and is then heated to the lower Curie temp. in an electric field E of a reverse polarity. The optical waveguides 15 are then produced at the temp. extremely lower than both Curie temps. |
