POLYMER OF P-DIOXANE THAT HAS HIGH INHERENT VISCOSITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a class of p-dioxanone polymer having a high inherent viscosity which is suitable for use in surgical devices, by obtaining a particular inherent viscosity and particular values of density by volume and monomer content when poly(p-dioxanone) is tested in a high concentration in hexafluoroisopropanol at a particular temperature. SOLUTION: A medical device is provided which has an absorbing characteristic and contains a surgical device, which includes poly(p-dioxanone) having an inherent viscosity ranging from about 2.3 to 8 dL/g when tested in hexafluoroisopropanol at 25 deg.C in a concentration of 0.1 g/dL, and a density ranging from about 1.3 to 1.45 g/cc. Instead, a surgical filament may be provided which includes a poly(p-dioxanone) filament that exhibits an inherent viscosity ranging from about 2.3 to 8 dL/g when tested in hexafluoroisopropanol at 25 deg.C in a concentration of 0.1 g/dL.
