PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel hydrogen secondary battery with high utilization rate of active substance, excellent high-rate discharging characteristics which can be manufacture at low cost. SOLUTION: With the nickel hydrogen secondary battery in which an electrode group 1 consisting of a cathode 1C with its cathode mixture with nickel hydroxide as a main ingredient held by a collector, an anode 1A with an anode mixture with a hydrogen storage alloy as a main ingredient held by a collector, and a separator 1B arrayed between the cathode and the anode is sealed in a battery can 2 together with alkaline electrolyte solution, the collector for the cathode 1C is surface treated with a water-soluble coupling agent.
