Device and method for the detection of an analyte

Device for detecting or quantitating an analyte comprises analyte-specific capture molecules anchored to magnetizable nanoparticles that are movably disposed in or on a base matrix. Binding of the analyte to the capture molecules changes to mobility of the nanoparticles and this change is read magnetically. An independent claim is also included for detecting or quantitating an analyte using a device as above.
