PURPOSE:To provide the titled detector capable of enlarging an effective printing range and preventing interruption of printing which requires reprinting, by a method wherein an effective printing range is determined when the absence of a printing paper is detected, and a paper absence discrimination output is generated when the printing in the range is finished. CONSTITUTION:The number of total printable lines is set on a counter 5 by an OFF signal fed from detecting switch 4 for the absence of the printing paper. The number of the printable lines contained in the final page is calculated so that the printing is completed at the bottom line on the page which is the last but one of the remaining pages of the paper, and the number calculated is set on a page length setter 8. Each time the line is shifted, 1 is subtracted from the count value of the counter by a signal fed from a line shift signal part 6, and the resulting count value is compared by a comparator 7 with the number of the printable lines corresponding to the pages set on the setter 8. When the count value coincides with the number of the printable lines, the paper absense discrimination signal is outputted from the comparator 7. |
