The artificial rectum is enclosed by two bags, one inside the other, both held in position by a strap round the body, while the interchangeable inner one has a flange pressed by the strap against the stomach wall. Both bags are of thin material impervious to liquid and with a neck and flange, the necks being passed loose through a ring attached to the strap. The outer bag flange protrudes over that of the inner one and under the strap, so as to bear the stomach wall. An interchangeable absorbent pad can be fitted between the rectum and the inner bag flange.
