PURPOSE: To provide a range finder capable of always measuring distance with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: An active range finding is performed in an active range finding part A, a passive range finding is performed in a passive range finding part P, luminance is measured in a luminance deciding part L, ambient temp. is measured in a temp. deciding part T and the respective measured results are transferred to a measured value selecting circuit 22. In the measured value selecting circuit 22, the point of a first kind indicating the superiority of the active range finding part A and the passive range finding part P is set in accordance with the range finding value measured in the active range finding part A and the point of a second kind indicating the superiority of the active range finding part A and the passive range finding part P is set in accordance with the various parameters of the luminance, the ambient temp., the contrast of an object, etc., all of which are measured, respectively. The added value of points of the first and the second kinds for the active range finding part A is compared with the added value of points of the first and the second kinds for the passive range finding part P based on a prescribed judging algorithm, which range finding part gives the measured value of higher accuracy is judged and the judged result is outputted. |
