The cylinder head (10) for a Diesel engine has at least one bore (12) which opens into the combustion chamber, to receive the fuel injector (14). The receiving bore has stepped diameters increasing from the combustion chamber end (16). The different diameters (18a-c) of the receiving bore each match different diameter fuel injector bodies. The different diameters of the receiving bore each match larger diameter fuel injectors. The smaller diameter of the combustion chamber end of the bore matches the greatest diameter of the smallest fuel injector.
