A lock assembly 22 comprises a casing, a pair of locking members 38, 40, a pair of blocking members 54, 54 rotatably supported in the casing, each normally blocking movement of the locking members towards non- locking positions and each having a predetermined rotated position permitting the locking members to move to non-locking position, means normally biasing the blocking members to blocking position, and a key 86 having surface formations 88-94 engageable with the blocking members and operable when the key is moved linearly into the casing to rotate each of the blocking members to non-blocking positions, the key also having a surface 100 engageable with the locking members to simultaneously move the latter to the non- locking position. As shown, in which the assembly is incorporated in a door for a coin box and is pivoted thereto about hinge pins 34, 36, the locking members are pivoted about pins 42, 44 and in the locking position project into grooves or slots 50, 52 in the coin box and are retained in this position by the engagement of peripheral portions of the blocking members with pins 56, 58 carried by the locking members. The blocking members of which there are four, are in the form of toothed wheels, each of which is biassed to the locking position by a spring 72 and includes a series of projections 78, the number of which in the series determines the limit position of the wheel as it is moved by its spring against a lug 80. The limit position of each wheel is such as to dispose a slot 57 in the wheel out of registry with the pins 56, 58. The key is provided with four fixed racks 88-94, each of which is engageable with a wheel as the key is moved linearly into the lock mechanism through an opening 98 to align the slots 57 with the pins 56, 58. The leading end of the key then disengages the locking members from the grooves or slots 50, 52; upon removal of the key, the locking and blocking members are restored to their locking positions shown. |
