A valve-timed internal combustion engine has a device 13 for adjusting the camshaft 2 relative to its drive gear 14. The adjusting device has a control sleeve, which is positively connected by various tooth systems to the drive gear on the one hand and to the camshaft on the other and has a bilaterally actuatable hydraulic control piston. The control piston is hydraulically actuated by hydraulic oil from the engine oil circuit, which is diverted upstream of a restriction 11 in the feed to the bearing points 12 in the cylinder head 2 of the internal combustion engine. As a result the full pressure of the lubricating oil pump 7 can be used for adjustment of the control sleeve. <IMAGE>
