PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of recorded information by resolving a problem that the optimum light beam intensity depends on the temperature of a medium itself and executing recording and reproducing with optimum light beam intensity at all times without being affected by the temperature environment, in the optical recording and reproducing device to record or reproduce the information with high density by radiating the optical recording medium with light beams. CONSTITUTION:Temperature sensors 12 and 13 are provided to detect temperatures on both sides of a cartridge 11 housing a magneto-optical disk 1 and by controlling a laser drive circuit 7 with a CPU 8 corresponding to the average value of the respective detected temperatures, the light beam intensity of a semiconductor laser 5 can be set. Thus, the optical recording and reproducing device can be obtained to record, erase and reproduce the information with the optimum light power corresponding to the temperature of the magneto- optical disk 1. |
