PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making easy and safe use of an oyster shell powder without calcining it, especially a method for making the best use of adsorbing ability for formaldehyde of the oyster shell powder. SOLUTION: An adsorbent for formaldehyde comprising the oyster shell powder obtained by heat-treating an oyster shell before calcination at 250 to 400°C for 20 to 60 minutes, and a housing interior material, containing the adsorbent for formaldehyde, is selected from the group consisting of paint or paint compositions, wallpaper, sliding-screen paper, fusuma paper and tatami mats.
