1,141,432. Preparation of aluminium trialkoxides and alcohols. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 16 Aug., 1967 [14 Nov., 1966], No.37604/67. Heading C2C. Aluminium trialkoxides having 2-30 carbon atoms in each alkyl group, and primary aliphatic alcohols, are prepared by partially oxidizing trialkylaluminiums with an oxygen containing gas to between 66<SP>2</SP>/3 and approaching 100% of completion of oxidation, adding aluminium isopropoxide to the partially oxidized product, completing the oxidation to give aluminium alkoxides, removing acetone from the reaction mixture, and if required, hydrolysing the alkoxides to alcohols which are then recovered, the alcohols being prepared from trialkylaluminiums having at least one primary alkyl group linked to the aluminium. The aluminium isopropoxide is preferably added when the oxidation is 80-85% complete, in a proportion of 0À5-20% of the initial weight of trialkylaluminium. |
