PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an azo dyestuff, realizing high coupling activity, high reaction rate and excellent color development, by using a coupler having a specific leaving group. SOLUTION: This method for forming an azo dyestuff comprises reacting (A) an diazonium compound with (B) a coupler having an leaving group at the coupling position, wherein the reaction rate of coupling the component A with the component B is improved. The reaction rate constant of coupling the both components is preferably 0.1 sec-1 or more. The component B preferably comprises a coupler having a structure of formula I, II or the like (X1 to X4 are each an atom group necessary for forming a five-membered heterocyclic aromatic ring; Y is hydroxyl, amino or the like; L is an leaving group capable of leaving when coupled with the diazonium compound). The component A preferably comprises a compound of forming III (R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl or the like; R3 is an alkyl or the like; R4 is H or the like; X is a counter anion of an acid). Thus the above reaction can provide a recording material excellent in color development and having good stability to heat and light. |
