摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reformer, having excellent startability and transition responsiveness and capable of being miniaturized by providing a fuel reforming catalyst supported on activated charcoal, having an electric resistance of a specified value or less, and providing at least a pair of electrodes across the fuel reforming catalyst supported on the activated charcoal to directly carry a current to the activated charcoal. SOLUTION: In a fuel cell reformer for reforming hydrocarbon fuel to hydrogen gas, a fuel-reforming catalyst supported on activated charcoal having an electric resistance of 500 Ω/125 cm3 or smaller is used. When the electric resistance of the activated charcoal is high, it is preferably made highly conductive by heat treatment. The heat treatment is performed at a graphitizing temperature or higher in an inert gas prior to catalyst support. Since the high conductive activated charcoal used as carrier has a specific area as large as 700-2,000 m2/g, the catalyst support quantity per unit weight can be increased, as compared with alumina carrier: about 200 m2/g and zeolite carrier: about 500 m2/g, and a fuel cell reformer superior in reforming efficiency with a smaller size can be realized.
