Removal of a tool (Fig. 1, not shown) from the lower platen 1 of a press is facilitated by supplying compressed air through apertures in the surface of the platen, these apertures being normally closed by valves 6 which are opened by the tool when placed in position on the platen. The valves may comprise spring-biased ball valves (Fig. 3, not shown) and the apertures may lead to grooves 4, 5 in the surface of the platen. |
