PURPOSE:To improve recording density by providing a modulating circuit that modulates chrominance signals by input data signals and recording signals modulated by the modulating circuit in a part of vertical blanking section devoid of video signal. CONSTITUTION:A change-over switch 10 switches chrominance signals and data signals of recording video signals by output of a data controlling circuit 14. It selects data signals supplied from a luminance signal recording process circuit 15 in data adding part of vertical blanking section, and in case of others, selects chrominance signals supplied from an ACC circuit 2. Output of the change-over switch 10 is subjected to processing of phase shifting and low band conversion by a phase shifting and frequency converting circuit 12, and mixed with luminance signals processed by a luminance signal recording and processing circuit 15 by an adder 44. Output of the adder 44 is amplified by a recording amplifier 16 and recorded in a tape 18 by a recording head 17.
