In an hydraulic anti-skid braking system (Figure 1), a valve (2) controlling the flow of braking fluid to a brake actuator (1) is actuated by a pulse-driven stepper motor (14) in response to signals emanating from a skid sensor (16). In a practical arrangement (Figure 3), a motor (3, 6) under the control of a microprocessor (37) actuates a pressure dump valve (33) via an eccentric mechanism (34) upon the appearance of a skid signal at the sensor (38), in order to de-pressurise the actuator (30), and also drives a pump (36) which assists in re-pressurising the system when the skid signal ceases. |
