MULTI-UNIT DELIVERY SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To enable a medication system involving an effective agent to be released continuously while fixing time by designing a medicine dispenser so that a plurality of discontinuous individual medicine units aligned in the longitudinal direction are dosed by the linear expansion of a liquid activation drive element. CONSTITUTION: An osmotically effective solute is present in a solution 90 retained in a hard housing 92, and the hard housing 92 is constructed of an impermeable film that is permeable to the passage of an external liquid and impermeable to the passage of the osmotically effective solute contained in the solution 90. The solution 90 is separated from medicine units 94 by use of a flexible film 96. The ability of a drive element to exclude the medicine units 94 contained in the housing depends on osmotic pressure produced by the solution 90 of the osmotically effective solute limited to within the housing 92. The solution shows an osmotic pressure gradient to a liquid in an environment in which a dispenser is placed, and is preferably a saturated aqueous solution of a salt.
